KUAN YIN and MY TAROT READINGS
It is interesting how the things that are going to become important to us come into our lives. That was the case of this beautiful Kuan Yin statue for me. I was not raised in a religious background where I would have known about Kuan Yin, but every time I saw a depiction of her in art or statuary, I felt a strong connection. I never knew why until many years later, when I learned she is the embodiment of compassion, mercy and the Divine Mother. She is very similar in meaning to Mother Mary in my Christian heritage and I believe she also has a deep resonance with the Queen of Cups energy.
Some time ago, I felt a strong urge to find a Kuan Yin statue for my yard. I looked a long time and was disappointed I could not find a yard statue I liked. But I did find this Kuan Yin statue for inside my home. I knew as soon as I saw her that she was the right one for me and I could not wait for her to arrive.
When she did, as I was mentally welcoming her to our home, I felt an impulse to hold her so our hearts were touching. As soon as I did this, an incredible energy flowed between us. The energy of my heart expanded in such a powerful way that eventually my chest began to ache from all the power flowing through it. And although my eyes were closed at the time, it felt like she and I were enveloped in a soft green light. Only days later did I make the connection that the color of the heart chakra is green. Every time I look at her I am reminded of this amazing event, particularly when I notice her flower necklace at the level of her heart. It speaks to me of the heart unfolding and opening to others.
I had planned to have her sitting on the table beside me when doing my Tarot readings. She was to be a reminder to always read with compassion for the person seeking a reading. I believe that most people asking for a reading are baring their souls and trusting the reader to help them. They are vulnerable and I never want to forget that most important part of a reading. Apparently this little statue does not want me to forget that, either. She was letting me know right away that she was more than ready to help me help others. Needless to say, she and the energies she represents have now become a part of my pre-reading ritual. We have developed a powerful partnership with Spirit.
THE PEARL OF COMPASSIONATE WISDOM
There are so many things I like about this Kuan Yin, but one aspect I find myself drawn to the most for Tarot readings is the pearl she holds in her right hand. This pearl can mean many things to many people, including the ideas of illumination – both spiritual and secular – and wisdom gained through hardship. But I have come to see it as her ‘Pearl of Compassionate Wisdom.’ It is the pearl of compassionate wisdom I seek when doing my Tarot readings. Each reading begins with a prayer to be shown what the person seeking a reading most needs to know. I trust Spirit and my connection with Kuan Yin to help me see that pearl and share it with them. The desire to help others has always been very strong in me and perhaps that is why I can connect so well to her energies.
In her role as the Divine Mother, I can definitely see a connection with the Tarot Queens, especially the Queen of Cups. Shown in this photo with a rose quartz (stone of love) in front of her, she has four depictions of the loving Queens of Cups around her. From left to right, these Queens are from The Fountain Tarot, China Tarot, Robin Wood Tarot and Shadowscapes Tarot. She looks very comfortable and appropriate with those ladies. That makes my heart smile.
I have enjoyed having Kuan Yin come into my life in such a powerful and unexpected way. She has become a real treasure to me and a pearl of compassionate wisdom.
